East Coast Lagoon Food centre

Had lunch with mum recently and she brought me to East Coast Lagoon FC as we were in the area.
Apparently she comes here quite a bit with her friends as she has full knowledge of what's hot and what's not.

Though, that can be seen just as easily by the queues in front of specific stalls. Namely Beef kuey tiao, satay bee hoon being the order of the day. We had satay too but i didn't really think they were that good, just normal.

There's only one pic of this meal. The satay bee hoon. Why? Cause it's the Mooost famous stall there, at least thru observation (queueing) I was like 6-7 people back in the queue and had to wait about half an hour juusssst to reach the front. The brothers at work do one order at a time despite the queue and the few in front of me ordered to dine in AS WELL as takeover of about 10 packets (rough gauge).

After i was done i looked again and the queue was about 20 people long. Talk about a love of 'famous' food!

The $5 masterpiece.

Now to give it credit, this rendition of a local favourite does have many merits. Firstly, they're not stingy on ingredients, which is good. From the prawns to the veggies, lean meat, cuttlefish and hum, everything was done just about right, with texture and flavour both locked into the ingredients.

However, the main difference is the sauce. Finely grounded, it's more like satay syrup instead of the chunkier versions commonly found. Smooth and goes along better with the bee hoon than the usual chunkier version but personally i prefer a little more bite in my meal.

Still, worth a visit and an order whenever in the area.

4/5.
It would be higher if it wasn't for the queueing. I hate queues.

Psp and Santouka Ramen @ Central

Busy selling busy buying! You see all kinds of interesting people when you deal in such things. By interesting it's usually in a bad way.
Ah well.

Went for ramen recently at Santouka @ Central. Tucked in a corner on the 2nd level, you woulda missed it if it wasn't for the sign. In fact the sign points nowhere till you walk all the way in.

Heard good things about this place so tried we did. For starters, they don't have an option to add butter or corn which was a letdown (for O). O took the shoyu ramen which was pretty good but she remarked the stock could be 'porkier'? Ingredients were quite standard but well, GOOD!
Pork slices - Not quite melt in your mouth but minimal chewing required. Quite e fatty pieces of meat though

Bamboo shoot - i like... otherwise its just bamboo shoots

Hers came with seaweed which still had a oomph to it despite being soaked in the stock. Go figure huh?

We both took the set which came with a egg and salmon roe rice bowl

Nice but i like my yolk more runny.

This was REALLY yummy! The roe and cooked salmon went really well with the ramen but note that after the meal we were really really REALLY thirsty. The upside is a pitcher of ice water is placed on every table. Guess they had feedback.

My spicy soy bean paste ramen. I must say i prefer this to O's Shoyu ramen. More kick to it and spicy in a non lingering way so you can keep going for more. It looked really oil with a layer of it on the surface when it came but happy to say it didn't taste that way. Surprising really.

Another closer look at the pork slices *thumbs up*

It's one thing to say you enjoyed the meal but pictures are louder.
mine.

Hers.

O doesn't take alot of noodles or rice but noted all the ingredients are gone and so is the soup!
But it does say that well the noodles are nothing to really shout about. The stock and ingredients are worth the trip though.

Bill came up about 44 after etc etc... mine was 19.50 hers 18.50 with rest to tax. Quite reasonable considering the quality of ramen. Just don't let the fluent jap speaking stern face lady turn you off from the food ^^
